Keel ja Kirjandus generally accepts for review articles and essays focused specifically on Estonian language, literature, folklore, and culture, written in Estonian. On rare occasions, we may consider translating manuscripts on relevant topic for publication. If you feel your submission falls into such an exceptional category, please contact the editor-in-chief directly. We discourage simultaneous submission to multiple journals.

The journal employs a double-blind peer review process and initial manuscript evaluation. Manuscripts rejected at this stage typically lack originality, have significant scientific flaws, exhibit poor grammar, or fall outside the aims and scope of the journal.

The journal provides immediate open access to its content. Articles are published under the Creative Commons licence CC BY-NC-ND 4.0, permitting reusers to copy and distribute unadapted material in any medium or format, for noncommercial purposes only, with proper attribution.

There are no article processing charges (APCs) or article submission fees. The authors receive compensation for their published texts, typically €350 for a standard scholarly article, paid within a month of publication. The fee for reviews and other short texts depends on their length and the journal’s annual budget. Published articles are funded by the Estonian Ministry of Culture.
